| RENEWED IN MISSION AT CHLC
Our Christian identity is one of renewal. If it was not for the life renewing power of our Baptism, we would be left in the stagnant state of death caused by sin. If it was not for the renewing power of God’s Word leading us into the ways of life God intended, we would be wandering aimlessly through life. If it was not for the renewing power of the Lord’s Supper, we would be left in the doubt and uncertainty of our own efforts before God. In the past few months, a process has been begun to examine our life in ministry at College Hill. A Strategic Planning Process has been initiated to examine the present state of our ministry and the mission and vision of what our ministry can be. This is not just the work of the leadership which has been assembled. This is not just the task of the Board of Directors of CHLC. This is the responsibility of every single person—student and congregation member—involved in the ministry. In addition to receiving updates on the work of the Planning Leadership Team (PLT), the participants in our ministry are asked to take an active role in the shaping of our ministry for today and the future. You are invited to provide your input to the PLT as they continue their work. But that is not all! At the end of September, we will begin a special series of worship services
designed to help each of us focus on our life and ministry in Christ.
The “Renewed in Mission” series will help each of us examine our personal
involvement in the mission of our ministry together, as well as
equip us to move forward in the work we do together. The series will begin
September 24 and will reach its culmination as we observe Reformation
Sunday on October 29. The series will progress as follows:
This is an exciting time in the life of our work together in the Lord. We pray that each of you will make a point to join us for this special time and prepare your heart and mind to rededicate yourself to move forward in mission as we serve side by side in Christ’s name in service to the community and the world around us. |

Personal Witness the Focus of Sunday Morning Bible Study It is not uncommon that Christians don’t feel personally equipped to share their faith. As individuals, we do not always feel up to the task of giving witness to Christ to the people we encounter. The fire to share the Gospel is not always there. That fire is actually started within us by water. Our Sunday morning Bible study will begin a course of study entitled “How Do You Start a Fire with Water?” This study will focus us on the ability each of us has by virtue of our baptismal identity to share our faith with people around us. Sunday morning Bible study begins at 9:00 each week. Everyone— students and members—are encouraged to join us in this captivating study.
Go Beyond on Wednesday Nights Wednesday nights at CHLC, go beyond the basics of faith with in depth Bible study. We gather around the Word of God, growing in faith and in fellowship. Currently, we are in the midst of a study titled “Igniting His Way,” which examines the way God uses us to spread the light of the Gospel to the people we encounter every day. Following that, we will engage in a study themed, “Practical Christianity: Being Christian on a College Campus.” Join us to go Beyond each Wednesday beginning at 8:00 p.m. There will be worship, study and wonderful fellowship. Be a part of it! |

Big Thank You!
We are so blessed in our congregation with faithful people willing to share their talents, time, and resources. This is a THANK YOU article to thank those involved in these three projects. SonHarvest County Fair VBS was such a great success this year. We had almost 50 children take part in the activities of this week long event. Our Vacation Bible School students and their families contributed over $300.00 to purchase a cow for a widow in India. This project is conducted by Lutheran World Relief and provides income for widows and their children. One woman, Fatima, shared that when she became owner of a cow she had milk for her children and was also able to sell the surplus. Thanks to all the boys and girls, staff and parents who supported this worthy project. Thanks to all who helped out during this week The many volunteers made everything run smoothly. Beth Ackles and the kitchen staff made delicious food each day. We would be remiss if we did not thank all the congregation members who donated food, supplies and monies to support the Vacation Bible School. A special thank you to Carol Lilienthal for the gifts she provided for each one of our students. How the children enjoyed their hats and gift bags. Thanks to all who shared so willingly. Habitat for Humanity/Thrivent project house on Solar Ave in Waterloo is an example of this sharing. First, a special thanks to Bob Bolte for the many hours he spent at the house doing many aspects of carpentry and building tasks. Thanks too to those ladies who furnished lunch for the workers early on in the project. Lastly, thanks to those who made financial contribution to the expense of the building project. It has been a very successful project and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, Black Hawk County Board has already been contacted to participate in building a house again next year. Thanks to all. Lutheran Home for the Aged experienced a very successful ice cream social and community activity on August 6. Thank you to all the bakers who prepared “goodies” to sell at the bake sale. We furnished about eighty (80) items for the sale and they were selling like hot cakes, no pun intended, when we were there at 2:30p.m. Funds earned will be matched by Black Hawk Thrivent Chapter up to $800.00. So those baked goods were a vital part of the monies raised by the event. Thank you all.
