| A Message from Pastor
Dear Friends in Christ,
These past ten years hold many fond memories for me. The many different students who have come through the doors and been involved in our ministry are always the highlight of life at College Hill. Not only the changes in personnel, but certainly the change in the facilities has been a significant development in the life of the ministry. I will remain as the pastor of College Hill through the end of November, preaching my last sermon here on November 26. But though we will be separated by physical distance, the people and the ministry of College Hill will always be in my mind and heart. This has been a largely formative part of my ministry. I will definitely take a part of College Hill with me no matter where the Lord and life may take me and my family. My thoughts toward this ministry will always reflect the words that Paul wrote to the church in Philippi: I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:3-6 NIV I thank all of you—and all the students who have come and gone—for allowing me to be a part of your life over the past ten years. I thank you for the partnership in the Gospel that we have shared. And based on the promise of God, I am confident that the Lord will continue to bless all of you with goodness and joy for years to come. In Christ,

Graduating? Student teaching? Let us know. It may seem too early to be thinking about the end of the semester, but if you are graduating at the end of this semester, or heading out for student teaching or an internship, you are well aware of how quickly the end of the semester is creeping up. If you are in one of these categories, please let the church office know by Sunday, December 3. We would like to recognize those who are finishing their course work, or at least their classroom work, this semester.

LLL On October 7, 2006 Zone two LLL Iowa District East held its fall rally at St John Lutheran Church, Waverly, Iowa. The program was presented by Rev. Tim Zimmerman and his wife, Carol. They, along with other members from Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Iowa City visited their sister congregation located in Biskek, Kyrgyzstan, a country bordering China. We saw pictures of the work being done for the Lord by His people there. Pastor and Carol also gave credit to the Orphan Grain Train which has delivered many needed supplies. There is an ongoing need by the people of the country as well as the people of Biskek. The program also included slides from their visit to New Orleans. Much work is being done by Lutheran Hour Ministry volunteers and the Orphan Grain Train. The rally was an enjoyable time of information and fellowship. 2006 Lutheran Hour Ministry Advent Devotions, entitled ”Love was Born at Christmas” will be available in an online format that churches can customize and copy to suit their outreach needs and approach that will more strongly promote local congregations. The devotion booklet will not be in the standard printed booklet format. The devotions can also be received via email. Would you like to join LHM for the China tour February 9-22, 2007? There was still time. Call 1-800-944-3450, ext. 4275. For the month of November 2006 please pray for the country of Nicaragua. For additional information on Nicaragua contact Leslie Tucker at 1-800-944-3450, ext 3450.

Stewardship Time It’s Stewardship Time again! As we turn our thoughts to focus on what we can do to further the work of the church, I’d like you to keep in mind our theme for this stewardship celebration. This year our theme will be “Growing as God’s Stewards.” Our theme may be only four words but is holds many opportunities for you as members of our church to serve the Lord with your time and talents as well as your offerings. This year’s schedule will have November 12 and November 19 as our Stewardship Sundays. The time and talent sheets and pledge forms will be distributed to the members present. I invite you all to attend our stewardship celebration this year. God’s blessings to you and yours. I hope to see all of you during church so we can together discover news ways to serve our Lord and give thanks. In Christ, Paul Schmellik Board of Stewardship Director

What a wonderful success! What a wonderful success! The Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Annual Dinner was so well received and appreciated by those attending and the Board of Directors. Compliments were received on the tasty food, fine service, pleasant wait staff and the accommodations for parking cars and rides for drivers. THANK YOU to all the members of CHLC/BSC who baked pies, prepared and served the food, and the many other tasks. We owe a special thank you to Keith and Carolyn Macomber for chairing this BIG undertaking. In addition to about $1000.00 earned by preparing the food ourselves, the Thrivent Board chose to gift CHLC/BSC in the amount of $1000.00. So it was a task well worth doing financially as well as being of service to the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans who are so generous with us in additional ways. Once again thanks to all
