News for the week of Sunday, November 8, 2009.
News:
Lithuanian Mission Project: At the October voters' meeting a motion was made to set a goal of $5,500, to pay for Sunday school and choir room interior walls at the mission project. The motion also recommended that CHLC match dollar for dollar from the general fund. This motion carried. To date we have collected $2,125.74. To meet this goal we are having a mission drive on November 8 and 15. We need to raise $625 to meet our goal. Please help by giving to this worthy cause. Mark your gift as Mission-Lithuanian Project. Don't miss the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner next Sunday, November 15. Turkey, dressing, potatoes and drink will be furnished. The meal will be hosted by the Macombers. College Hill congregation members are asked to bring two dishes to share. Single members are asked to bring one dish. College students will be our guests. See you there. Building Healthy Families: Veterans Day (Wednesday, November 11) presents a great opportunity to educate your children or grandchildren about the history of this holiday and the sacrifice and dedication of our U.S. veterans. In Iowa, there are over 276,000 living veterans. This afternoon, help your child make a thank you note and deliver it to a veteran in your community. If you don't know a veteran personally, send a card or note to any veteran at the Iowa Veterans Home, 1301 Summit Street, Marshalltown, IA, 50158. Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 800-622-7285 Stewardship Thought: Hebrews 9:24-28: God's redeemed stewards look forward to the second coming of Jesus to take us and all believers to heaven. In the meantime we strive to fill each day by making the best use of our time, talents and treasure for God's holy purposes. Outreach: Mark 12:38-44: The widow's offering, though it was considered next to nothing by many, was precious in the sight of God because it was given sacrificially with confidence that God would provide for her needs. All that we do and give because we are the children of God, though it may seem insignificant to people of this world, is precious to God! Our witness to the good news of Jesus is also precious to God!
LSF News:
Mark the date and invite your friends to join you for the annual Thanksgiving Potluck following the Divine Service on Sunday, November 15.
