News for the week of Sunday, February 8, 2009.
It is time for another wonderful CHLC potluck on Friendship Sunday, On February 15th there will be a major Benefit at the Cedar Falls Am Vets for our Alise Williams. Alise is a three year old baptized member at College Hill. She is the niece of Ivan and La Dawn Hankins. You can read all the details of Alise's illness on the bulletin board in the gathering area or at www.caringbridge.com. An auxiliary site for the benefit will be the Fellowship Hall at CHLC where we will host a potluck and accept donations to the Williams Benefit. There will be a basket for cash donations or checks made out to the Williams Benefit and, be advised, that an additional amount will be included in our donation from the HELP account. There will be matching funds from the Black Hawk County Chapter of Thrivent. We are hoping to reach a goal of $1500.00. Plan now to be a part of the Williams Benefit on the 15th. Be here for potluck and make your donation then or earlier, if you choose. Anyone interested in making greeting cards (card stamping) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 10 and/or Thursday, February 19. Contact Ruby Wegener at 236-1065. Stewardship Thought: 1 Corinthians 9:16-27: A good steward is like a trained runner who competes with dedication to win the race. As God's stewards we run the race of life not to gain fame or a moment of glory for ourselves, but to live as God's people with all our efforts directed toward the things that will last into eternity. Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 800-622-7285 Outreach Idea Mark 1:29-39: The disciples saw Jesus heal Peter's mother-in-law and many more sick people in that same place.
