Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. Even in hard times, Christians know they are blessed. If they possess nothing other than the love of Christ, they are rich beyond measure. (1 Thessalonians 5:18) Food and Fellowship Galore...at the annual CHLC Thanksgiving potluck today. Join us after the Divine Service for turkey and all the trimmings. All are invited. Today in Sunday School: "Saul Becomes King" was the Sunday School lesson for today. Students learned that though God lets us have our own way at times, His is the way of forgiving and saving, which He did for His people of old and for us today. Consider asking, "How did God care for the children of Israel even though their desires were sinful? How does God show His care for us even though we are sinful?" Give Thanks in Worship. Our Thanksgiving Eve worship will be held Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00 p.m. It is right to give thanks to the Lord for the gifts He gives. We give thanks and also receive His blessings through the Word. Canned food items and Christmas presents for the Vinton Lutheran Home are now being collected. Please take your canned goods to the sacristy by Wednesday, November 26. The gifts may be put in the boxes under the table in the gathering area until Sunday, November 30. Poinsettias: It's time again to order flowers for the Christmas season. The cost this year is $10.00. A signup sheet is located on the table in the gathering area. To pay for poinsettias make checks payable to CHLC marked "Poinsettias" on the memo line on the check. The deadline is Monday, December 1. The office secretary will be leaving on vacation on this Thursday and will return on Wednesday, December 3. If you need to contact the church, you may leave a message on the answering machine and Pastor will return your call. Building Healthy Families: "The difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug." (Mark Twain). During an important conversation with your spouse, take time to think about what you want to say before you say it. There are a hundred ways to say the same thing - some ways build relationship and other ways tear it apart. Choosing the right words can make all the difference. Lutheran Family Service of Iowa800-622-7285. Stewardship Thought: 1 Thessalonians 5:1-11: St. Paul reminded the Thessalonians and us that we are to live as children of light not of darkness. That truth encourages us to make the most of our lives as we use all that we are and have to bring glory to our God who loves us so dearly, and to our fellow human beings who need help and encouragement. That is at the heart of our Christian stewardship.
