Lutheran Hour message for next Sunday is "I Didn't Know." Speaker:
Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus God accepts no excuses. He calls us to repentance
and faith in our crucified and risen Savior. (1 Thessalonians 5:2-4)

The Deadline for the December Newsletter is tomorrow at noon. The
secretary will be leaving on vacation on the 19th and wishes to have
the newsletter printed on Tuesday next week. Please help her by
having information and articles to the office by noon tomorrow.

Today in Sunday School the students studied the life of Samuel. They
learned how God calls His people to repentance through preachers such
as Samuel; that He might forgive us for the sake of Christ. Parents might
ask, "How did God use Samuel to speak to His people? How does God
use our pastor to speak His Word today?"

Student and Adult Game Night: Join us at 7:00 p.m. this Friday,
November 14 for Game Night. Bring your favorite board/card game and
a snack to share. See you there.

Don't miss the Annual Thanksgiving Dinner next Sunday, November 16.
Turkey, dressing, potatoes and drink will be furnished. The meal will be
hosted by the Macombers. College Hill congregation members are
asked to bring two dishes to share. Single members are asked to bring
one dish. College students will be our guests. See you there.

Give Thanks in Worship. Our Thanksgiving Eve worship will be held
Wednesday, November 26 at 7:00 p.m. It is right to give thanks to the Lord
for the gifts He gives. We give thanks and also receive His blessings
through the Word.

Canned food items and Christmas presents for the Vinton Lutheran Home
are now being collected. Please take your canned goods to the sacristy
by Wednesday, November 26. The gifts may be put in the boxes under
the table in the gathering area until Sunday, November 30.

Poinsettias: It's time again to order flowers for the Christmas season. The
cost this year is $10.00. A signup sheet is located on the bulletin board in
the gathering area. To pay for poinsettias make checks payable to CHLC
marked "Poinsettias" on the memo line on the check. The deadline is
Monday, December 1.

Building Healthy Families: Informed parents are aware of the many
pressures on our teenage girls today. The media is filled with computeraltered
images of women who are rail thin, lifted up as role models for our
daughters. An important task of parenting a young teen girl is to help her
develop a healthy body image. Teach her that beauty comes in different
shapes and sizes, and that a beautiful body is a healthy one. One good
resource to help you is the book Beauty Secrets by Rachel and Deborah
Newman (Tyndale House Publishers, March, 2007). Lutheran Family
Service of Iowa 800-622-7285.

Stewardship Thought: 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18: As Christians we live with
the sure hope that the best is yet to come regardless of what challenges
we face in life. Therefore we can use all of life and life's resources
according to God's purposes not just our own. That truth makes our
stewardship free and joyous in our living and our giving.

You are invited to be the guests of the congregation next Sunday, November
16, for the annual Thanksgiving dinner. The meal will take place following
worship. Each year the great cooks of the congregation prepare a dinner that is
only second to the one you share with your family on Thanksgiving. You and
your friends are welcomed as the special guests of the day.

On Sunday, November 23, any students who are still in town for the week of
Thanksgiving Break are welcome to join pastor and his family at their house for a
Thanksgiving meal at 5 p.m. No need to bring anything-the food will be
provided. Please sign the sign-up sheet at church on the Narthex tables or let Pr.
