News for the week of Sunday, September 21, 2008.

News:

Advent Jesse Tree: Workers are needed to decorate ornaments for the Jesse Tree on Monday and Tuesday this week. The approximated times for working are Monday: 1:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. and Tuesday from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 and 1:00 p.m. onward. There are 26 ornaments that need to be decorated. We look forward to seeing you. We will be working in the basement of the church (the rec room). For more information call the church office 266-1274 or Ruby Wegener 236-1065.

Students and congregation: Volunteers are needed to help with the Thrivent Dinner. On Friday, workers will be needed in the kitchen to do preliminary cooking and baking. On Saturday, workers will be needed to help in the kitchen and also needed in the fellowship hall to set up for the meeting. On Sunday, many workers will be needed to do lots of tasks, from early set up, serving, and cleanup. Just as the workers set up the fellowship hall, it will need to be returned to usual placement. There will be plenty of work for many helpers. Keith and Carolyn Macomber are chairing the event and will appreciate the help. Signup sheets are on the table in the gathering area.

We rejoice this day as Jackson Richard Geinosky is added to our fellowship of faith through the sacrament of Holy Baptism. We welcome him to the body of Christ.

Today's Sunday School lesson "The Bronze Serpent" is one of the more challenging stories in the Old Testament. Just as the bronze serpent was lifted up to heal and save the Israelites, Christ was lifted up on the cross to heal and save us from sin, death, and the devil. Ask students, "How did God rescue people bitten by the serpent? How does God rescue you?"

You are invited to the Installation Service of Nathan Richter as principal of Valley Lutheran High School taking place today at Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo at 2 p.m.

A big Thank You goes to all the members of the congregation who have brought food for the two potlucks that we had this year. We know how much work goes into getting all the food prepared, the setup, and clean up. We appreciate it so much. We look forward for the next potluck where we can again enjoy all the good food. Thank you from all of us. Lutheran Student Fellowship
