News for the week of Sunday, March 23, 2008.

News:

During March and April we are have a drive for the Northeast Iowa Food Bank. Instead of bringing food items we ask that you consider a donation of money. $1.00 can buy $13.31 worth of food. (And during March and April the food bank will receive additional matching money from the Alan Feinstein Foundation for each dollar donated.) Money donations may be put in your Sunday envelope with a note telling the counters how much money is to go to the food bank. If you have any question, please contact Madeline Bruce or Marcia Stirler.

Movie Night: LYF will be going to "Horton Hears a Who" Wednesday night in Waverly. If you're interested in going contact Becky McBurney at 319-276-3100.

Outreach Idea: John 20:1-18: Right after Mary Magdalene has seen her risen Lord she went to the disciples to share with them this good news. Like Mary we are eager to share the good news of a risen Lord with others so that the Holy Spirit can work saving faith in the hearts of those currently disconnected to Jesus.

Stewardship Thought: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11: St. Paul witnessed to the truth that the risen Jesus was the power in his life and therefore he was renewed to be a good steward of the Gospel. We believers in Christ and His resurrection are also moved to be good stewards, not just of our money, time and talents, but also with our sharing of the Gospel of salvation.

Sunday School Children's Message: Christ is Risen! He is Risen indeed! Alleluia! Talk with your children today and this week about the reality of the bodily resurrection and what that means for us and our resurrection from the dead. Christ's resurrection fills us with confident hope that as Christ has been raised from the dead and that we, too, will rise bodily to eternal life with Him in heaven.

Building Healthy Families: EASTER ... A single word that holds within it the foundation of our faith, the reason for our hope and the motivation for our ministry. The staff of Lutheran Family Service celebrates Easter with you today. Thank you for your partnership with us throughout the year, as together we serve others in the name of our resurrected Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 1 -800-622-7285

Appreciation Sunday- Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 6th as a Sunday to be at College Hill for the Divine Service in grateful appreciation to everyone who supports the ongoing Word and Sacrament ministry at College Hill. If at all possible, we would like to encourage all of our members to be in church on this Sunday. Likewise, all the college students who have had the opportunity to make College Hill a church home away from home, we invite you to all be in church on the same Sunday. You will be invited to sign your name on a very special (larger-than-normal) card for College Hill Lutheran Church and Iowa District East who ensure that the faithful proclamation of the Gospel is heard and the Sacraments are administered according to Christ's institution. Help us to show appreciation to those who support this priceless ministry by being here

LUTHERANS FOR LIFE
Have you heard about "DRESSING FOR LIFE" Secrets of the Great Cover-up?
God is the Master Designer of clothes; therefore, He has a lot to say about what we wear, our behavior, and loving others as ourselves. Unfortunately, today's culture does not encourage modern woman to seek God's Word about clothes - or much of anything else, for that matter. The purpose of "Dressing for Life" is to explain the "secret" of the "great cover-up."
What is the benefit of "DRESSING FOR LIFE"?
This unique life-style show benefits younger and older women by speaking God's Truth about living as a woman. God's unchanging Truth contrasts the world's changing opinions. The event also benefits the mentoring ministry of Jitus 2 for Life, the healing ministry of Word of Hope, and/or your local caring pregnancy center.
How can you support "DRESSING FOR LIFE"?
It takes many helping hands to do an event this size. All the vintage clothing needs to be ironed the day before the event. Three women are needed to help the models dress during the style show. Two to three women are needed to set up the buffet as the desserts are brought in and oversee the serving. Men are needed too, to set up the tables on Friday, June 6 at 6:00 p.m.
Can you help with any of these needs? If you can, please call Kie Maasat 231-5711.

The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 AM at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470AM at 8:00 a.m. The Lutheran Hour message for next Sunday is "The Key to Diminishing Doubts" Guest Speaker: Rev. Timothy Coppersmith. Do you long for someone to come onto the scene and make everything right? If only someone had the ability to help us overcome doubt, guilt, and fear. Pastor Tim Coppersmith invites us to see "The Key to Diminishing Doubts." (John 20:19-31)
