News for the week of Sunday, February 3, 2008.
Choir Practice: Please join us for choir practice today after the service and on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. We will be working on a song for next Sunday. Are you not in the choir and want to join? Just show up and join us for the fun! No auditions. Just come. February Newsletters are available for you to pick up today. They can be found on the table in the gathering area. Be sure to pick up yours, as well as one of someone who isn't here this morning so that you can deliver it to them this week. Dinner Theater: Plans are progressing for this year's event. Good food and great entertainment. The doors open on Friday and Saturday at 5:30 p.m., supper begins at 6:00 p.m. and the theater starts around 7:00 p.m. If you would like to purchase tickets to a night of dinner theater or would just like to donate towards the cause, please contact Brad Brons at 605-321-9078 or email at brad_brons@yahoo.com. The proceeds will be matched by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans. Today's Sunday School lesson was about the Transfiguration of our Lord as recorded in Matthew 17:1-9. At the transfiguration, Jesus' glory was unveiled before the disciples. Today, His glory is unveiled for us in the Word preached by the pastor, in the water of Baptism, and in the bread and wine of His Holy Supper. In heaven, we shall see Him in all His glory! Talk with your children about how we are like the disciples, who trembled at the sound of God's voice, because we, too, are sinful and unworthy to see Him face-to-face. Emphasize that through His Word and Sacraments, Jesus makes us clean and worthy to stand face-to-face with God, our Father. Ash Wednesday: Join us this Wednesday, February 6, for worship beginning at 7:00 p.m. Make this worship opportunity a part of your Lenten preparations. Instead of a meal prior to worship a Lenten social fellowship will follow the worship service. The fellowship hour will include coffee, hot chocolate, and cookies or bars. Invite your friends. The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470 a.m. at 8:00 a.m. The Lutheran Hour message for next Sunday talks about the custom made, one-of-a-kind temptations which Satan successfully offers to each of us and the salvation which comes through Christ. (Matthew 4:3) Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. LSF News: Choir Practice: Please join us for choir practice today after the service and on Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. We will be working on a song for next Sunday. The congregation invites you and your friends to be their guests at the meal next Sunday, February 10, following the morning worship. Yes! We do have Bible study after the Ash Wednesday service. Enjoy the post-service hot chocolate and goodies and then come downstairs for a brief review of the six chief parts of Christian doctrine. We will divide into teams and play Catechism Jeopardy to help us review. Wiffle Ball: Each Monday night at 9 p.m. you are invited to the UN1 Dome to play wiffle ball with the other churches associated with campus ministry. It's a great opportunity for some evening exercise and to meet new friends. Applications are being accepted up until February 24 for resident caretakers and peer ministers for Summer and next year. If you are interested please pick-up an application from the table in the narthex or ask Pastor Wegener or Tim Gamble. Spring Break Servant Event: Sign-up for a great opportunity to help a church in Montrose, Colorado over Spring Break. The cost it very minimal with a $25.00 deposit due next Sunday, February 10. We will also have time set aside for recreation and sight-seeing. Dinner Theater: On February 15 & 16 you could help raise money for the Spring Break trip at our 10th Annual Dinner Theater.
