News for the week of Sunday, December 30, 2007.
The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470 a.m. at 8:00 a.m. This next week's sermon is "Falling Down" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. The wise men teach a lesson they followed where God took them. Today's Lutheran Hour message encourages the same from us. (Matthew 2:11 b) Offering envelopes for 2008 are located on the table in the fellowship hall. If you don't have an envelope, but give regularly (whether you are a member or not) we would like to offer you an envelope, please contact Nick Anderson or the church office and let us know. The church office will be closed Monday and Tuesday this week as both Pastor and Sylvia will be out of the office. All voting members of the congregation are urged to attend the Annual Meeting next Sunday, January 6, at 11:30 a.m. Several important items are on the agenda including the election of congregational officers and the 2008 operating budget. If you are not a voting member, but would like to be, please talk to Pastor Wegener or Kevin DeVries. This Thursday, January 3, 2008, at 9:30 a.m. will be a new beginning for the Women's Bible Study. We would enjoy sharing our study time with you. The morning will also devote a short bit of time to any Guild business that needs to be addressed. Outreach Idea: King Herod did his best [or worst] to kill the infant Jesus, but his plans did not work out because God saw to it that his Son would live to grow up and carry out his ministry all the way to the cross for the eternal salvation of many. The good news of salvation in Jesus is the message we have to share with people who are living without a hope that reaches beyond the grave. Today in Sunday School: Today's lesson was about the presentation of Jesus in the temple (Luke 2:22-40). Already in His infancy, Jesus was fulfilling the Law for us and for our salvation. Ask your children to tell you what happened and who was in the temple waiting to see the promised Savior. The song sung by old man Simeon is part of the communion liturgy of the Church. The "Nunc Dimittis" is sung following Communion. What does this text tell us about who we find in God's house? Building Healthy Families: What do you resolve to change in this New Year? Trying to make positive changes in the parts of our lives that aren't working so well can seem difficult, but be encouraged! Our God is an awesome God and under His blessing, we can experience growth, change and transformation. Be strong and courageous. He is faithful and will never give up on you! (Read 1 Corinthians 1:4-9) Family Service of Iowa -800-622-7285 Stewardship Thought: On that first Christmas God fulfilled his promise to send a Savior. Just as God uses time wisely and carefully, so we also, as God's stewards, want to use our time for Godly living and giving. A Life Quote from Lutherans For Life: "It is a powerful lesson for disciples of all ages to understand that we are not the Holy Spirit. We cannot open blind eyes, deaf ears, resisting hearts, or indifferent minds. This is God's work. We are only to sow the seed faithfully. Remember how Paul put it, "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow" (1 Corinthians 3:6). Rev. Homer Larson, speaker on fhe Christian Crusaders radio broadcast. www.lutheransforlife.org / 888-364-LIFE January Newsletters are available for you to pick up today. They can be found on the table in the gathering area. Be sure to pick up yours, as well as one of someone who isn't here this morning so that you can deliver it to them this week. LSF News:
