Dr. Ken Klaus Anyone who wants to suffer, raise your hand! (2 Timothy 2:3) Building Healthy Families: Tomorrow is Columbus Day. Do your children (do you?) know much about the man, Christopher Columbus? Take time this week to do some research and your children (and maybe you) will learn that he not only opened trade routes between Europe and the Americas, he also carried out what he believed to be a Spirit-led mission to bring Christianity to the world. Thank God for the courage and vision that He provides for His people, throughout history and also today! Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 1-800-622-7285 As Christian stewards we are managers or servants of that which belongs to God. It is our duty to manage wisely and well, and even when we do, we do not merit any special rewards from God; we are only doing what we are supposed to do. In other words we practice good stewardship not in order to be saved, but because we are saved. In our Epistle for today St. Paul urged Timothy not to be ashamed to testify to our Lord who has graciously saved us and called us to a holy life. What God has done in Christ in our lives is the heart and core of our Christian witnessing. May God give us all a bold spirit of witnessing to the hope that we have in Christ. Today in Sunday School, the children completed their study of how God used and worked in Joseph's life. In Genesis 42-45, Joseph reveals himself to his brothers and forgives them, telling them that though they meant evil, God used their acts for good. Our Lord Jesus Christ reveals Himself to us and forgives us in His holy Word and Sacraments. Families should review and discuss how God was with Joseph, blessing him through all that happened, the good and the bad. Talk about how God has turned bad or evil things in your life or world into blessings for your good. LSF News: Students - Need a ride? The church van will make rounds.
