News for the week of Sunday, September 2, 2007.

News:

Stewardship Thought: Hospitality is one of the activities of good stewards. Our Epistle reading encourages us to keep on loving one another and not forget to entertain strangers. Some wise stewards in the past practiced hospitality and entertained angels without even knowing it. Using all of life and life's resources for the above purposes is good and God-pleasing.

Building Healthy Families: Labor Day is a celebration of workers. How about "working" tomorrow, along with your family, to help someone in your neighborhood or community who needs something done that they can't do themselves? Doing it in secret, without the person finding out who is helping them, will make it even more fun for your kids. Happy Labor Day!! Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 1-800-622-7285

September Newsletters are available for you to pick up today. They can be found on the table in the gathering area. Be sure to pick up yours, as well as one of someone who isn't here this morning so that you can deliver it to them this week.

PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 2, 2007

Please take this home with you and put it where you will be reminded daily of the prayer opportunities for our church. This week they are:

1. Give thanks to the Lord for all who labor for the good of society and pray the Lord's continued blessing upon them.

2. Pray the Lord's blessing and preparation upon the children and youth of our congregation as they get ready for the start of Sunday School.

3. Pray the Lord's blessing upon the studies of this year's confirmands.

4. Pray for the Lord's healing strength for Walt Krallman, Deb DeVries's mother Eileen Runia, for Laura Zayas' father and for our shut-ins including Marian Bireline, Rosalie Boone, and Lucinda Peters, and all others who are ill or in any need.

5. Pray the Lord's blessing upon missionary Heidi Norton, as she serves in Guinea. Pray at all times with every kind of spiritual prayer keeping alert and persistent as you pray for all Christ's men and women." (Ephesians 6:18)

Company is Coming: Rev. Jerome Terry and his wife, Dora, will be in Cedar Falls on September 9. Pastor Terry is the minister at Bethel Lutheran Church in the New Orleans area. This was the church LSF went to help while on their spring break trip this last year. He will be our guest preacher at the 10:00 a.m. divine service. Following worship there will be a potluck honoring Pastor Terry. LSF is planning on having dinner with the Terrys that night at the Brammer Student Center. Supper will start at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Terry and Dora will share stories about the continued effects of Hurricane Katrina. This will be a night where LSF can show their Midwest hospitality. Pastor Terry will also be speaking at UNI on that Monday at 7:00 p.m. in Ballroom B at Maucker Union. Invite your friends to join you at these events.

The flowers this morning are from Sheena McBurney and Ed Hargus' wedding held Aug. 11.

Don't forget that Sunday School starts next Sunday at 9:00 a.m.

Ladies: Evening Guild meets this Thursday at 7:00 p.m. The program will be devoted to finalizing plans for the Fall Waterloo LWML Rally to be held here on Saturday 15. Marcia Stirler is our hostess for the evening and is also leading devotions. We encourage all women of the congregation to attend.

In honor of Pastor Terry's visit (see Company is Coming) September 9 is the date for us to enjoy food, fun and fellowship with a potluck in the Fellowship Hall following morning worship. Drinks and table service will be provided. College Hill family members are asked to bring two dishes to share. Single members are asked to bring one dish. The college students will be our guests.

We thank the following people for representing CHLC last week by helping deliver Meals on Wheels to the shut-ins of Cedar Falls: Dorothea Berning, Bob Bolte, Jerry Crosby, Keith Macomber, Virgil Mauer, Nancy Neessen, Paul Schmellik and Val Wente. This was our final week of helping in 2007.
