News for the week of Sunday, August 12, 2007.

News:

Our regular worship schedule resumes next Sunday, August 19. Beginning on Sunday, our worship will begin at 10:00 a.m. Adult Bible study will continue that week at 9:00 a.m. Sunday School for the youth of our congregation will not begin until September 9.

All members of the congregation and students are invited to an ice cream social and events planning session today at 1:00 p.m. This is an opportunity, better yet a responsibility, for you to input your ideas for activities and events for the 2007-2008, August through July, calendar year. Bring your favorite ice cream topping and join us at 1:00 p.m.

Invite your friends, bring your lawn chairs and plan to have a
great day outdoors. Next Sunday, August 19, 2007 the 10:00 a.m.
service will be held outdoors, weather permitting. Following the
service there will be a picnic at 11:30 a.m. The drinks, hot dogs,
and brats will be furnished. Bring a salad, side dish and/or a
dessert to share. You may choose to either eat outdoors or in the
fellowship hall

The September Newsletter deadline is tomorrow at noon.

The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470 a.m. at 8:00 a.m. This next week's sermon is "Grasping the Obvious" Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus. Some things seem to be so obvious that we're amazed anyone could miss them. Today's message on "The Lutheran Hour" speaks to the obvious clues God gives for recognizing the Christ. (Luke 12:54b-56)

Stewardship Thought: This text reminds us that faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. As Christian stewards we have the confidence that our lives have purpose and meaning and we live them out to bring glory to our Father in heaven and blessings to people around us.

PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WEEK OF AUGUST 12, 2007
Please take this home with you and put it where you will be reminded daily of the prayer opportunities for our church. This week they are:
1. Give thanks to the Lord for taking our sin and giving us His righteousness.
2. Pray the Lord to renew and revive us in our mission to the campus and community around us.
3. Pray for the Lord's healing strength for our shut-ins including Marian Bireline, Rosalie Boone, and Lucinda Peters, for the father of Laura Zayas and others who are ill or in any need.
4. Pray for faith to live in the promise of Holy Baptism; for one's calling and daily work; for the unemployed; for the salvation and well-being of our neighbors; for schools, colleges, and seminaries; for good government and for peace.
5. Pray the Lord's blessing upon missionary Philip Schielke, as he serves in Kyrgyzstan.
Pray at all times with every kind of spiritual prayer keeping alert and persistent as you pray for all Christ's men and women." (Ephesians 6:18)
