News for the week of Sunday, July 22, 2007.

News:

Vacation Bible School: VBS is scheduled for August 6-10 from 9 a.m. to noon. In order to have enough materials for VBS please let us know who is coming, their address and their grade in school. There is a sign up sheet on the table in the gathering area.

Building Healthy Families: This is the week that 10,000 bikers will roll across Iowa from the northwest corner to the eastern border with RAGBRAI. Remember them (including the LFS team members) in your prayers, and consider using them as inspiration. What can you do this week to push yourself to do something a little out of the ordinary? You might not ride a bike 465 miles in 7 days, but you can take the initiative to do something! What will be your RAGBRAI? Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 1-800-622-7285

The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470 a.m. at 8:00 a.m. This next week's sermon is "Belonging to One Another" Guest Speaker: Rev. Mark Brandt.

Outreach Idea: When Mary Magdalene saw the risen Lord, she could not hold back her joy but went quickly to tell the disciples the good news of His resurrection. By baptism we have been buried with Christ and raised again to live a new life. What good news of salvation we have to share with others because Jesus lives and so also we live!

Stewardship Thought: All people who are confronted by Jesus fall into one of two categories: either they reject Him or they joyfully believe in Him and produce works of love. May we always be counted among the children of God who do things that honor God and bless others.

August Newsletters are available for you to pick up today. They can be found on the table in the gathering area. Be sure to pick up yours, as well as one of someone who isn't here this morning so that you can deliver it to them this week.

Pastor Wegener will be out of office from July 25-30. During that time you may contact Rev. Poock at 232-5789 for pastoral needs. Rev. Poock will be our guest preacher on Sunday, July 29.

The office secretary will be on vacation from July 26 until August 12. She will return on August 13. With Pastor and Sylvia both gone the office will be closed July 26-30 and August 3 & 10.

PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 22, 2007
Please take this home with you and put it where you will be reminded daily of the prayer opportunities for our church. This week they are:
1. Pray in thanksgiving for the certainty of God's glorious presence in your life and in the life of this ministry.
2. Pray for wisdom and guidance for our nation's leaders that we may live in peace and safety.
3. Pray for the Lord's healing strength for Eulalia Kloostra, for our shut-ins including Marian Bireline, Rosalie Boone, and Luanda Peters, for the father of Laura Zayas and others who are ill or in any need.
4. Pray for the preaching of the holy cross of our Lord Jesus Christ and for the spread of His knowledge throughout the whole world; for the persecuted and oppressed; for the sick and dying.
5. Pray the Lord's blessing upon missionary Nicholas Larsen, as he serves in Japan.
Pray at all times with every kind of spiritual prayer keeping alert and persistent as you pray for all Christ's men and women." (Ephesians 6:18)
