College Hill Lutheran Church is linked to Japan, where Jenae Siebarth serves as a long-term missionary. She shares, "I remember celebrating Pentecost in church at home, but I have never celebrated Pentecost like I did recently in Japan. The church goes all out in red! Everyone wears red clothing and they have red balloons decorating the doors. I never knew it could be such a festive day, but why not? It was awesome to share with my English Bible study why we celebrated the day of Pentecost. On this Pentecost, the Spirit was indeed moving through Suginami Church. The church was full, and there were tons of first-time guests. There were two college students that had to visit a church for their Christianity class. Three of my students also came for the event. In church, we spoke Acts 2:6, 'When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.' It was spoken in eight languages, and only one person spoke each language. It was amazing to hear! After church we had a birthday barbeque-they even decorated two birthday cakes in Sunday school. One of the college students ended up staying for the lunch, helped clean up, and was there even after I had to leave. It was his first time to church ever! God brought him to our church on a wonderful day for his first church service. Please pray that he has a desire to continue coming to church."

Building Healthy Families: Summer activities take on a different pace, but often, it is not a slower '••'-one as many hope. Try to include an element of relaxation and calm in vacations and special events. Stroll along a creek bank and think about "streams of living water" or survey the expanse of land before you as you are drive toward the sunset and consider that "as far as fhe east is from the west so far has He taken our sins from us". Talk to your kids about your musings. Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 1-800-622-7285

The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470 a.m. at 8:00 a.m. This next week's sermon is "Orders Is Orders" Some orders are doable, but Jesus gives instructions for living that are beyond our ability to follow. (Luke 10:25-28) Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus

Outreach Idea: When Jesus sent out the seventy-two He reminded them that the harvest was plentiful but the workers were few. When the seventy-two returned in joy and told Jesus that even the demons submitted to them in His name, He told them to rejoice even more that their names were written in heaven! With joy we also know that in Christ our names are written in heaven, and we reach out to share our faith so that the names of others may also be written in heaven.

Stewardship Thought: Christian stewards sweeten the lives of everyone whose lives they touch. They are "burden bearers" who strive to do good to all people, especially their fellow Christians. May we not become weary in doing good!

PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 8, 2007
Please take this home with you and put it where you will be reminded daily of the prayer opportunities for our church. This week they are:
1. Pray for the power of the Lord to be manifest in your life and through your actions.
2. Pray the Lord's blessing and guidance upon President Keischnick and the leadership of our synod.
3. Pray for the Lord's healing strength for our shut-ins including Marian Bireline, Rosalie Boone, and Lucinda Peters, for the father of Laura Zayas and others who are ill or in any need.
4. Pray for marriage and family, that husbands and wives, parents and children live in ordered harmony according to the Word of God; for parents who must raise children alone; for our communities and neighborhoods.
5. Pray the Lord's blessing upon missionary Rudolph Blank as he serves in Venezuela .
Pray at all times with every kind of spiritual prayer keeping alert and persistent as you pray for all Christ's men and women." (Ephesians 6:18)
