College Hill Lutheran Church is linked to El Paso, Texas, where long-term
missionary Naomi Valine serves. She shares, "The remainder of March
was full of groups and work. We had two medical clinics, one vacation
Bible school, and one house built in two weeks! Between the two clinics,
approximately 750 patients were seen at three different mission
churches. I helped translate for several days, and was able to watch as
people who are too poor to see a doctor were able to receive vitamins,
baby formula, and other necessary medical items that they can't otherwise
purchase. The doctors prescribed and gave away piles and piles of
medications, which I'm sure will make a significant difference in the lives
of people struggling with high blood pressure, diabetes, infections, strep
throat, and other common ailments that can be life-threatening if not
treated. People were always there waiting for us when we pulled up in
the morning, and some of them would be waiting for six hours or more to
see the doctor!
Building Healthy Families: This week, pay particular attention to your spouse, your child or your best friend. Notice when they are getting tired or drained of energy. Give them a word of support, a compliment, or a helping hand. "Speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it." I Thessalonians 5:11 Lutheran Family Service of Iowa 1-800-622-7285
The Lutheran Hour is broadcast weekly and may be heard on Sundays on WGN, Chicago 720AM at 6:00 a.m.; WMT, Cedar Rapids 600AM at 6:30 a.m.; KXEL, Waterloo 1540AM at 7:00 a.m.; KCHA, Charles City 1580 at 7:30 a.m.; and KWAY, Waverly 1470 a.m. at 8:00 a.m. This next week's sermon is ""Free for What?" Is Christianity just a bunch of rules and regulations or are the Savior's bloodbought
people free to live their lives in freedom? (Galatians 5:1, 13-25) Guest Speaker: Rev. Dr. Ken Klaus
Outreach Idea: When Jesus cast the many demons out of the man of Gerasenes he begged Jesus for the privilege of going with Him. Jesus instead sent him away with these instructions: "Return home and tell how much God has done for you." We are most effective as Christian witnesses when we tell others how much God has done for us!
Stewardship Thought: By faith in Jesus Christ we have become children of God. What a privilege- to be children of God! What an awesome challenge-to be children of God! May God's Holy Spirit help us to speak and act more and more like our Father in heaven.
PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE WEEK OF JUNE 24, 2007
Please take this home with you and put it where you will be reminded daily of the prayer opportunities for our church. This week they are:
Pray in thanksgiving for the certainty of God's glorious presence in your life and in the life of this ministry.
Pray for the Lord's protection and blessing upon those serving in the armed forces.
For deliverance against temptation and evil; for the addicted and despairing, for the tortured and oppressed; for those struggling with sin.
Pray for the Lord's healing strength for our shut-ins including Marian Bireline, Rosalie Boone, and Lucinda Peters, for the father of Laura Zayas and others who are ill or in any need.
Pray for the Lord's blessing upon the work of missionary Andrew Schaff, who serves in Taiwan.
"Pray at all times with every kind of spiritual prayer keeping alert and persistent as you pray for
all Christ's men and women." (Ephesians 6:18)
