News for the week of Sunday, January 17, 2010.

News:

We welcome back the students with a potluck today. Everyone is
invited to join us after worship for a meal in the Fellowship Hall.

Among our guests today are students from throughout Iowa who
came to the LSF High School Weekend Retreat. We welcome you
and trust that you had a good time with our college students this
weekend.

Pastor Wegener has a cell phone. That number is 319-427-3098.

In our prayers today- Alise Williams, Sylvia Nordbrock, Rev. Don
Poock, Mike Batt, Lucinda Peters and Hershel Vaughn (Keith
Macomber's brother-in-law).

Thank you to everyone who donated the beautiful poinsettias for
our enjoyment during the Christmas season.

Outreach: John 2:1-11: The first miracle of Jesus was changing
water into wine at a wedding. He did this to add to the enjoyment
of the wedding guests. By this action Jesus showed that He
doesn't care just about our spiritual needs but also our physical
needs. What a loving Savior we have! He came that we might
have life and have it abundantly. We have the privilege of inviting
others to share in this joyful and abundant life.

Building Healthy Families: Studies continue to document the
increasing problem of obesity in children, associated with
significant health concerns in adolescence and into adulthood.
One contributing factor to this problem is the growing number of
hours children spend watching television or using computers.
Parents, be aware of the need for limits on time spent in front of
the screen. Get outside, even when it's cold, and enjoy the world
God has so lovingly created for you! Lutheran Family Service of

Stewardship Thought: 1 Corinthians 12:1-11: As God's stewards we
are not all the same with the same gifts. Rather, each of us has
been blessed with different gifts so that we may work together as
parts of one body-the body of Christ. Our stewardship involves
using our time, spiritual gifts and financial resources to make a
difference in the lives of those around us.

Life Quote: "Abortion must be fought one heart, one mind, and
one life at a time. This is what Christians have always done!" Diane
E. Schroeder, president of Lutherans For Life. This "Life Quote" is from
Lutherans For Life - www.lutheransforlife.org.

College Hill is linked to Macau, where GEO missionary Jessica
Luebbe serves. She writes, "I've found that Gospel sharing is very
person-focused-every person I meet calls for different words and
different types of care. Recently, I've had the opportunity to share
about Jesus with a student who is also a good friend. Becky and I
spend a lot of time together talking about culture and ways of
viewing things. I often share God's Word with her and talk about
the weekend fellowship. Becky is asking many questions and
looking for answers. She has been open to hearing about God's
love for her. Last weekend, I was able to give her a bilingual Bible
for her own personal use. She was excited to receive the gift and
promises to read it. Please pray for her; that faith will grow in her
heart. Pray also for me as I share with her."
