Welcome to College Hill!

On behalf of everyone at College Hill Lutheran Church and Brammer Student Center, I welcome you to campus.  I also invite you to join us whenever you have the opportunity for the Divine Service and Bible Study on Sunday mornings, Wednesday evening Bible Study, Table Talk, and various fun social events.

The Divine Service will always feature the historic liturgy of the Christian Church that has been handed down from generation to generation, keeping us grounded in God’s Word.  Sermons will preach Christ and Him crucified for the forgiveness of your sins.  And best of all, the Lord’s Supper will be celebrated frequently for you to receive Christ’s true Body and Blood for the forgiveness of your sins.  It doesn’t get any better than that!  The service begins every Sunday at 10 a.m.

Bible Study- Since every Christian should diligently study God’s Word so as not to be ignorant about what our Lord has revealed to us, our Sunday morning Bible Study will be reading through Holy Scripture verse by verse.  Bibles will be available, but you are encouraged to bring your own for making any notes in the margins.  Bible Study begins every Sunday at 9 a.m.

Wednesday Bible Study and Social Hour- Beginning at 8 p.m. every Wednesday, I will be leading a study based on St. Peter’s admonition: “Always be ready to give a defense (apology) to everyone asking you a word concerning the hope that is in you” (St. Peter 3:15; my translation).  The name of the study is “Apologetics:  Defending the Faith”.  Christians should always be ready to defend their faith with sound arguments both from human reason and Holy Scripture.  Following the study, opportunity will be given for refreshments, socializing and playing games.

Table Talk-  Please join us on Thursdays at noon in Maucker Union by Essentials.  I will be there, ready to discuss any theological issues or to simply enjoy casual conversation.

You will find that the people of College Hill are warm-hearted and eager to serve you in any way possible.  Please stop in any time to say hello and take a tour of the building.  I will usually be in my study from 9 a.m. until noon.  The Lord bless your studies!

In Christ,

Pr. John H. Wegener

STARTING THINGS OFF ON THE RIGHT FOOT

We hope you will join us for our Divine Service this Sunday, August 19. Weather permitting, we will be having an outdoor worship on the west lawn of the church property. Worship begins at 10:00 a.m., as it does each week. Following worship, join us as a guest of the congregation for one of CHLC’s famous potlucks. The congregation will provide a wonderful spread of food for you to enjoy. The meal will certainly satisfy you and send you off strengthened to start the semester.

Need a ride?

On Sundays the CHLC van will be at the Towers: 9:35 a.m., Horseshoe (Between Lawther and Bartlett) 9:40 a.m. and the Quads (Between Rider Hall and Shull Hall) 9:45 a.m.

On Wednesdays the CHLC van will be at the Towers: 7:35 p.m., Horseshoe (Between Lawther and Bartlett) 7:40 p.m. and the Quads (Between Rider Hall and Shull Hall) 7:45 p.m.

IT’S A YEAR BEGINNING PARTY!

Join your friends, make some new ones and bring others with you as we gather for a cook out and night of fun at CHLC on Sunday, August 19. You are invited to start off your first week of classes with a free meal, cooked for you on the LSF grill.

In addition to the free food, there will be free fun. Make use of the LSF game room, shoot some hoops, toss the Frisbee, or do what you want. The festivities will begin at 6:00 p.m. and last until 8:00 p.m.

Come and bring your friends—new and old—with you.

PUTT AWAY WITH LSF

Plan to spend the afternoon with LSF on Sunday, August 26 for a mini-golf outing. We will leave the church at 1:30 p.m., heading out for an afternoon of fun on the “mini-links.” The cost of the mini-golf will be picked up by LSF.  Come and enjoy the fun, and bring a friend.

WHAT IS LUTHERAN STUDENT FELLOWSHIP?

College Hill Lutheran Student Fellowship (LSF) is the student organization at CHLC. It helps to provide spiritual growth, social and service opportunities for you while you are on campus. It is student organized and student run. There are no membership fees—just come and join in.

In addition to worship and Bible study, there will be social opportunities as well as service activities. In addition to offering fellowship, we strive to provide you the opportunity to grow in your faith and put it into action in the community and world around you.

WHAT IS THE BRAMMER STUDENT CENTER?

The Brammer Student Center (BSC) is the portion of the facilities at College Hill Lutheran Church (CHLC) set aside for student use—whether it be formal activities, study groups, Bible study or just getting away to relax. The space is here for you.

The student space is primarily found on the lower level. You may stop in to play pool, darts, ping pong, or air hockey. You may watch TV or view a video (VHS or DVD). There are classrooms and meeting rooms that you may use and even reserve for group use if need be. In short, the facility is here for you to use. It is open 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven days a week while school is in session. We hope you will feel at home, and enjoy the BSC while you are on campus.

If you would like to reserve a space in the BSC for a study group or other get together, you may do so by contacting the church office (266-1274).
